May 6, 2013: Bockorny Group Appoints Pete Lawson as Principal of the firm.

Please see the Press Release below:

WASHINGTON, DC: The Bockorny Group today announced the appointment of Pete Lawson as a principal of the firm. Lawson is a 15 year Democratic veteran of Capitol Hill and has held leadership positions in both a major trade association and Fortune 50 corporate Washington, D.C. government affairs office. He is widely respected for having led a number of the most significant legislative and regulatory campaigns in Washington over the past decade. He has worked extensively on issues including financial services, energy, tax policy, transportation, health care, corporate governance/legal reform and trade. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Government Relations for Ford Motor Company. In this position, he was responsible for overseeing both federal and state government affairs.

“Pete is a major hire for our firm. He has an incredible resume—has worked tough issues successfully with both the Congress and the Administration for some of the most respected organizations in Washington,” said Dave Bockorny, the firm’s Chairman and CEO. “He is a senior Democratic stalwart who is well-respected on both sides of the political aisle. The work of our firm will be greatly enhanced by his keen understanding of how business and government can work together to accomplish important public policy goals.”Lawson led a team that successfully negotiated national fuel economy standards for the U.S. Auto industry with the White House, Congress, Federal and State agencies, environmental groups and labor unions. Those negotiations led to unified national fuel economy and green house gas emissions standards that prevented automakers from having to engineer and build cars to a patchwork of differing agency and state standards. Lawson also worked extensively with the Administration, House and Senate leadership and Committees on legislation related to Dodd-Frank financial services reform, "Cash for Clunkers" and the U.S. - Korea Free Trade agreement. For these efforts, his company was recognized by "The Hill" newspaper for one of the top three lobbying victories during the 112th Congress.

Following his tenure on Capitol Hill, Lawson served as Vice President of Congressional and Public Affairs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, where he was the Chamber’s top Democratic and chief lobbyist on legal reform, corporate governance, and financial services issues. While there, Lawson headed "the Coalition to Preserve the Attorney-Client Privilege." The coalition included many of the country's leading business and legal groups including the National Association of Manufacturers, The Association of Corporate Council, The American Bar Association, The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, The American Chemistry Council and the ACLU. The Coalition worked with the House and Senate judiciary committees to introduce bipartisan legislation and successfully mobilized a grass roots, grass tops and a targeted media campaign which led to the reversal of the Department of Justice’s long-standing policy of penalizing organizations for not waiving attorney-client privileged communications.

Lawson also worked extensively on several other successful legislative campaigns including Class Action Reform, Bankruptcy Reform and the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act. There again, Mr. Lawson was recognized as one of Washington’s “Top Lobbyists” by a leading independent Capitol Hill news organization. Lawson continues to work closely with a number of Democratic organizations such as the New Dem Pact, the Blue Dog Coalition as well as Business Forward, Third Way and No Labels.

Pete honed his skills on Capitol Hill serving as senior counsel to Congressman Jim Moran (D-VA) who co-founded and co-chaired the New Democrat Coalition. Lawson staffed its members and facilitated the development and implementation of the coalition’s legislative agenda.

And, prior to working on Capitol Hill, Lawson worked as a consumer protection specialist in the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office, where he investigated business fraud and assisted with the prosecution of businesses found to be in violation of state and federal consumer protection laws.

Lawson, a Virginia native, is a graduate of the University of Richmond and George Mason University School of Law. He was admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 1997. He and his family live in Alexandria, Va.

David Bockorny, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the bipartisan consulting firm, the Bockorny Group, is pleased to announce Martina Lewis Bradford as a principal.

Ms. Bradford joins the firm after having served the United States Senate for the past 6 years. First as a senior advisor for human resources to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and most recently as Deputy Sergeant at Arms of the United States Senate. As the Senate’s second highest law enforcement and protocol officer, Ms. Bradford worked on a daily basis with the Senate Leadership and its Members, overseeing all operational, technology and security matters for the Senate and its visitors, including foreign and domestic dignitaries.

Mr. Bockorny said of naming Ms. Bradford to his group that, “I am excited to add a seasoned professional of Martina’s unique blend of business, legal and public policy talent to the firm. Martina brings a depth of experience from the highest circles of senior corporate leadership as well as unparalleled relationships with Congressional Democrats, strengthening the already strong bi-partisan reach of the Bockorny Group. Her strategic advice and counsel will further expand the firm’s ability to assist clients in achieving their legislative and regulatory goals and objectives. I have known Martina for many years and am confident that she will significantly enhance the brand.”

At the time of her appointment in 2010 by the Senate Majority Leader to the Deputy Sergeant at Arms position, Senator Reid called Martina “a seasoned professional” and “a great asset”. Upon her recent departure from the Hill in February of this year, he said, “She served in both capacities over the past 6 years with honor and distinction and accomplished a great deal for which the Senate will forever be a beneficiary. We wish her great success as she moves on to her next endeavor”.

Martina is well known in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives as a democratic stalwart and is widely recognized as an established leader in business, law and public policy with a stellar career of more than 25 years, in positions ranging from counsel on two Committees of the Congress to Corporate Officer for two fortune 50 Corporations, partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer and Feld law firm, to her most recent position as Deputy Senate Sergeant at Arms.

In her corporate position and legal practice she was particularly well known for her expertise in telecommunications, information technologies, mergers and acquisitions and trade having worked across a wide spectrum of businesses helping to devise and advance legislative and regulatory strategies and advising corporate business leaders regarding political matters. She is an effective strategist and leader who has a proven track record of being a key player in numerous major industry legislative and regulatory battles.

Ms. Bradford began her career in Washington by serving as an attorney-advisor at the Interstate Commerce Commission and subsequently by serving as counsel on both the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee and the House Appropriations Committee. Her Hill experience led to her being tapped to be chief of staff to the Vice Chairman of the Interstate Commerce Commission, where she was involved in handling several major mergers and acquisitions in the Railroad industry.

From there she moved on to the private sector where she rose quickly through the ranks from staff attorney to regional vice president to Vice President for Government Affairs at AT&T then on to Lucent Technologies in the late 90s to become Corporate Vice President for Global Public Affairs. There she was involved in launching the new company and getting it established with governmental and regulatory bodies around the globe. As part of the Senior Leadership Team she ably led the local, federal and international governmental affairs organizations.

Upon being named to the Bockorny Group Ms. Bradford said, “I have known David Bockorny for many years and have worked very closely with him on several matters critically important to the companies I have represented. He is first rate in his ability and integrity and I am excited to work alongside him once again in this new chapter of my career”.

Ms. Bradford is a graduate of Duke University School of Law and American University with a BA in Economics. She has served on several corporate and not-for-profit boards, including Board of Trustees of American University and Board of Visitors at Duke University Law School. She is also active in a wide variety of professional and philanthropic organizations, e.g., the Washington National Opera. A native Washingtonian, she is an avid golfer and is Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club and a member of Board the Mid-Atlantic Region of the USGA. She is the proud parent of one daughter who is also an attorney.
