Thomas comes to the Bockorny Group from Gephardt Government Affairs, where she represented clients on healthcare, financial services, tax and budgetary issues.  She has been a trusted advisor to a House Majority Leader, two Treasury Secretaries, two Fortune 500 CEOs, and dozens of corporate and non-profit clients.

Marchibroda, a veteran of the influential Bipartisan Policy Center, is a recognized expert in health innovation and technology issues with extensive experience navigating agencies across the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.  She most recently served as the director of BPC’s Health Innovation Initiative and the executive director of its CEO Council on Health and Innovation and will continue to serve as a BPC fellow.  She also lent her support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on immunization and emergency response issues.

“Marti is a recognized expert in both the public and private sectors who will significantly bolster our bipartisan credentials, while Janet is a leading policy expert at the intersection of health, innovation, and technology with broad expertise and contacts across the healthcare industry,” commented CEO David Bockorny.  “They bring new clients and perspective to the firm.”

Thomas previously served in the Clinton Administration at the Treasury Department as Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs, and as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Tax and Budget.  In both roles, she directed strategy and congressional relations that shaped tax and budget policies affecting consequential matters such as the IRS, the U.S. debt ceiling, domestic entitlement programs, and financial markets and institutions.  Before the Clinton Administration, she was the Executive Floor Assistant to House Democratic Leader Dick Gephardt (D-Missouri) for a decade.  In the private sector, Thomas was a senior member in the Washington offices of both Goldman Sachs and BNY Mellon and was later named partner at a bipartisan lobbying firm where she represented clients across numerous industries including financial services, transportation, energy, education, telecommunications, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals.

Prior to BPC, Marchibroda led stakeholder engagement for the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology at the Department of Health and Human Services, and also served as the chief healthcare officer for IBM.  She has held top leadership roles in numerous healthcare organizations, serving as the founding CEO for eHealth Initiative (eHI), the COO of the National Committee for Quality Assurance, and COO for the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship.  She has been recognized as one of the Top 25 Women in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare magazine.

Thomas earned a bachelor’s degree at Wesleyan University and a juris doctorate from Georgetown University.  Marchibroda holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and a master’s degree from The George Washington University.

September 27, 2016: Danny Fernandez Joins the Bockorny Group

Please see the Press Release below:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Bockorny Group announced today the addition of veteran Republican lobbyist and former senior Hill advisor Danny Fernandez.

Fernandez, an expert on health care policy, has developed an extensive portfolio of legislative and political expertise over twelve years, working in the Senate, House and for trade associations.

On the Hill, Fernandez served as a senior advisor to Representative Greg Walden (R-OR), a high-ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman.

Chairman Walden praised Fernandez as a trusted advisor, commenting that “Danny is a strong policy professional and a good friend. Danny was very dedicated and effective in helping me serve my constituents on a broad range of issues, and he understands the importance of bringing people together to get sound policies enacted into law.”

While with Walden Fernandez became an expert on the inner-workings of the Energy and Commerce Committee, and worked directly with the Committee’s health care team to develop and pass bipartisan legislation aimed at improving health care for industry and patients. This included the Food and Drug Administration Safety and Innovation Act of 2012, which among other things reauthorized the Prescription Drug and Medical Device User Fee Acts, created new FDA user fee programs for generic and biosimilar drugs, and gave the FDA new tools to expedite the development of new innovative medicines.

Fernandez also spent five years on the staff of Senator Gordon H. Smith (R-OR), serving on both his personal and Senate Aging Committee staff. While with Senator Smith, he gained valuable expertise in health care policy, and investigated issues important to senior populations such as fraud, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and the Part D prescription drug program for seniors.

In his time off of the Hill, Fernandez worked for the National Rural Health Association, where he helped the association serve as the voice for rural health care providers and patients in Congress and the regulatory process. During the development and passage of the Affordable Care Act, Fernandez was instrumental in convincing Congress that delivering and accessing health care in rural areas exhibits unique challenges, and successfully advocated for multiple changes to the final law to represent that.

While primarily a health care expert, Fernandez has gained valuable expertise over the years in many other policy areas, including financial services, telecommunications, and technology.

Most recently, Fernandez was the Vice President of Congressional and Political Affairs for the American Bankers Association, where he helped manage legislative efforts that impacted the financial services industry, including regulatory reform, cyber security, data breach laws, and health care.

Fernandez earned his bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University in 2004. While always considering Oregon home, he lives in Alexandria, VA, with his wife and brand new son.
